God’s Choices
The Bible describes God as holy, (Isaiah 6:3),righteous ,”(Psalm 7:11) just, (Deuteronomy 32:4)and sovereign (Daniel4:17-25) Therefore, God is capable of preventing evil and he desires to rid the universe of evil. If this is true why does he allow evil? Let’s look at his choices:
1. God could change everyone’s personality so they cannot sin. This would mean we have no free will. We could not choose right or wrong. We would be programmed to do only right, so there would be no meaningful relationships between him and his creation.
2. God could correct evil actions through supernatural means 100% of the time. We would soon not like it. We want God to prevent horrible evil, but we let lesser evil actions slide, because sometimes they are what we want to do.
3. God could immediately judge and remove anyone committing evil acts. Pretty soon there would be no one left because “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Instead we live in a real world where good and evil actions have consequences. God desires that we would obey him, but we often choose to go our own way and sin in the process. God does prevent and restrain much evil. When we choose evil, he allows us to experience the consequences of it.
