Jesus said He is the First and the Last

In Revelation 1:17-18, Jesus declares himself "the First and the Last," signifying his eternal nature, divinity, and role as the Creator and finisher of all things. This title, echoing Old Testament divine declarations, affirms Jesus as the ultimate authority over history, the risen savior, and the one who holds the keys of death and Hades. 

Key Aspects of "The First and The Last"

• Eternal Creator: As the "First," Jesus existed before all things, acting as the initiator of creation.
• Final Consummator: As the "Last," Jesus is the goal of history and will bring all things to their conclusion.
• Divine Claim: This title, also used in Isaiah 44:6 for God, directly asserts Jesus's divinity and unchanging nature.
• Authority over Death: Jesus is "the living one" who died and is now alive forevermore, having conquered death.
• Alpha and Omega: The title is synonymous with being the Alpha and the Omega, representing the beginning and the end of all existence and the guarantee of the fulfillment of prophecy. 

The phrase provides assurance to believers that Jesus is in control of the entire narrative of history, from the beginning to the end. 

Jehovah also said He is the First and the Last 

In the Bible, "the first and the last" is a title for the eternal God, Jehovah (YHWH), emphasizing His supremacy and uniqueness, notably in 

Isaiah 44:6 ("I am the first and I am the last, and besides me there is no God"). In the New Testament, this phrase and similar titles are applied to Jesus Christ in Revelation 1:17-18 and 22:13, which is interpreted as a claim of divinity. 

• Jehovah (Old Testament): In Isaiah 44:6, Jehovah, the King of Israel and Redeemer, declares He is the first and the last, identifying himself as the only true God.
• Jesus (New Testament): In Revelation, Jesus refers to himself as "the first and the last" (1:17-18) and "the Alpha and the Omega" (22:13), titles representing the beginning and the end.
• Interpretation: While some Christian traditions see this as a Trinitarian declaration that Jesus shares the divine nature of the Father (Jehovah), Jehovah's Witnesses' interpretation is that this applies to Jesus because he was the first and last to be resurrected directly by Jehovah to immortal life.
• Significance: Both instances underscore the eternal nature of the deity, with "Alpha and Omega" used in Revelation 1:8 to describe the Almighty God (Jehovah). 

The Quran also said Allah is the First and the Last 

In Islam, Allah is described as "

Al-Awwal" (The First) and "Al-Akhir" (The Last), based on Quran 57:3, signifying His eternal, infinite nature. "The First" means He exists before all creation without beginning, while "The Last" means He remains forever after all creation ends. These attributes confirm His absolute, self-subsisting existence. 

Key aspects of this divine attribute include:

• Significance in Scripture: The Quran (57:3) says: "He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him)".
• Theological Meaning: These names signify that Allah is the Creator and source of all, the beginning and the ultimate destination. He existed before time and space and will exist when they cease.
• Prophetic Supplication: Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used these names in prayers, confirming there is nothing before or after Him, which brings comfort and perspective to believers.
• Impact on Faith: Recognizing Allah as the First and Last helps believers detach from the temporary nature of the world and rely solely on the eternal Creator (Tawakkul). 

In essence, these names highlight that all things originate from Allah and will return to Him.
