Daniel’s Prayers

  • Acknowledgment of God's Character: Daniel begins by focusing on who God is—"great and awesome," faithful to His covenant, and merciful.
  • Corporate Confession: He includes himself in the sin of the nation, saying "we have sinned," rather than distancing himself from the people's rebellion.
  • Scriptural Basis: Daniel’s prayer was prompted by his study of Jeremiah’s prophecy, understanding that the 70 years of desolation were nearing completion, leading him to pray for fulfillment.
  • Appeal to God's Mercy: Daniel asks God to act for His own sake, not because of their righteousness, but because of His great mercy and to restore His holy city, Jerusalem.
