The first temple built in the Bible was Solomon's Temple (or the First Temple), constructed by King Solomon in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. Completed around 957–966 B.C. after seven years of construction, it served as the central place of worship for the Jewish people and housed the Ark of the Covenant.

  • Builder: King Solomon, son of King David, built the temple.
  • Location: Built in Jerusalem on the Temple Mount (the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite).
  • Purpose: It replaced the portable Tabernacle as the permanent dwelling for the Ark of the Covenant and the center of Israelite sacrifice.
  • Structure: Patterned after the Tabernacle, it was divided into three main parts: the Outer Courtyard, the Holy Place, and the Holy of Holies (Most Holy Place).
  • Materials: Constructed with cedar, juniper, stone, and gold.
  • Destruction: The temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar II of the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 587/586 B.C..

Although King David desired to build the temple, God did not permit him to do so because he was a man of war, leaving the task to his son, Solomon.
