Love is from God

 Your main source of love should be from God. He loves consistently, 24/7. Other people waver because of their own needs or indifference. Some give “performance love,” that is if you do well, do what they want, then you are best friends. If you don’t, then they don’t care or criticize. This is not God’s love.

You are correct. Some people take care of themselves and don’t care at all about others.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

We do God’s work when we help others. It doesn’t matter if we get thanked. A lot of times God doesn’t get thanked either.

Mature Christians are not doormats. They do not give sacrificially in order to be liked. They give because God has directed them to do so. They do not seek applause or credit. The Bible says that if you give secretly(or quietly) so no one knows it was you, God will reward you openly.

I think you are learning and growing in the Lord. You have a lot of what we call baggage, things you have to unlearn and move past because of your dysfunctional childhood. You can do it with God’s help.
