Struggles

Your honesty in expressing your struggles is refreshing. Yes, I have been angry with God, all the time feeling guilty because we know he is always right. And yes, sometimes God seems slow to answer. 

The key to our struggles with sin lies not in ourselves, but in God and his faithfulness to us. “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18 We all struggle with sin. Paul wrote about his struggle in Romans chapter 7. He sums up our problem in Romans 7:25. “So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.” When Jesus came to earth, God gave us the spiritual kingdom of God. As believers we have the Holy Spirit teaching us truth and right behavior, so as we fall short of righteousness we struggle with our sinful actions. Unbelievers don’t struggle because they do not know God’s truth. This tension is a normal part of the Christian life.

1Corinthians 10:13 tells us that God is faithful and will offer us a way out of our temptation—if we ask him. 1John 1:9 tells us that he will forgive us when we fall.

The temptation when we fall is to back away from God so he won’t see our failure, but the answer is to draw closer. James 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you.

Olympic skiers fall down the mountain frequently while they are learning to ski. It is expected. How else do they learn? Gradually they get better and can do amazing things. But a fall is always possible. The Christian life is similar: at first we make all sorts of mistakes as we learn and grow. Gradually we become more like Jesus. We have the advantage that God is our coach. Keep trying.
