We don’t want God

 Now we are at the heart of the problem: “I want my own way.”

Adam and Eve ate the fruit and decided they wanted their own way. Oh, they liked God, but didn’t want him telling them what to do. Look how that turned out. They were kicked out of paradise, had to work in the dirt to provide for themselves, lived with uncertainty, and Eve had pain in childbirth.

Jonah didn’t like God’s instructions and went in the opposite direction. He got three days in the belly of a fish to help him think things over. Then he went to Nineveh as instructed.

We all face submission to God and not our own way. Even when we see that God’s way is better, we still like to make our own choice. It is a lifelong struggle. In the garden Jesus faced this choice. After struggling with the decision, he said, “Not my will but yours.”
